Barbaresco: A Quiet wine town in the Heart of Piedmont you’ll love

Essential travel guide to the pretty town of Barbaresco, and why we recommend to add it to your southern Piedmont itinerary

Wine lovers are familiar with the name Barbaresco and associate it with austere taste and ruby red hues of Barbaresco wine.

But did you know Barbaresco is also a lovely medieval village worth visiting?

The small town of Barbaresco is in Piedmont and it is more than just a wine producing locality: Barbaresco is a cute village with medieval aspect and a stunning tower, which is one of the best viewpoints over the area and one of the prettiest towns in the Langhe are for quintessential Piedmont charm!

To visit Barbaresco is easy.

The town is small, takes a handful of minutes to visit and since it is outside the mass tourism track, you can leisurely include it in your itinerary with your planning. This is just what we did!

This is my essential guide to visiting Barbaresco. I hope you enjoy it!

Where is Barbaresco and how to get there

The town of Barbaresco is a small hilltop center in southern Piedmont, and more precisely in the Langhe area, between Alba and Asti.

The town is reachable by car: the SP3 road to here is scenic and a little bendy, as it meanders through this hilly area, yet it is well kept and large enough to accommodate two cars, one per lane.

As you get to the town, there are several designated parking areas, well indicated and convenient to then walk to the center.

The walk doesn’t take more than a few minutes but it may be slightly uphill, depending on where you park.

What to see in Barbaresco town

Barbaresco town is a small center developing around one main street leading to the one landmark of the town: the city tower.

The tower overlooks the houses but since it is on the highest part of the hill, it also acts as a fantastic vantage point to get birds-eye views of the countryside around it.

The tower is open to the public (find the site with opening hours and prices here) and has a lovely panoramic terrace you reach by lift and stairs.

The views are wonderful but don’t come here if you are afraid of heights as the lift has glass on the side so it may be an issue! Once at the top, the views are 360 around you and beautiful.

At the bottom of the tower you find a small cafe with coffee/ drinks and snacks.

The rest of Barbaresco town develops around the main street and is pretty to see: if you’re so inclined, entering the church is pleasant and the sundial on one of the walls on the main street cool to see!

Where to eat and go wine tasting in Barbaresco

Barbaresco has two Michelin rated restaurants right in the town Campamac and Antine’. Another place you can also enjoy is Rabaya – lovely restaurant outside of the center with lovely views and dishes that giving a modern twist to traditional staples and ingredients Web https://www.rabayaristorante.it/

For wine tasting, you can enjoy Enoteca Regionale del Barbaresco (reservation necessary) .
